John Moore is a professional writer, lifelong shark enthusiast, emoticon fanatic, and the author of Shadow Below: Extraordinary Shark Attacks. Born in Clearwater, Florida, in 1970, John’s fascination with sharks began in early childhood—sparked by beachside adventures, a snorkel encounter with a bonnethead shark, and formative viewings of Blue Water, White Death and Jaws. The latter, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, played a pivotal role in cementing his deep interest in both sharks and the stories that surround them.
Despite now living far from the ocean in the American Midwest, John’s passion has never dimmed. He continues to consume shark-related books, documentaries, articles, and eyewitness accounts with the same fervor he had as a boy. To him, sharks are not just apex predators, but living legends—creatures that embody mystery, myth, and primal fear. Yet, too often, they are misunderstood and vilified.
Shadow Below was born from John's desire to fill a surprising gap: a comprehensive, sober, and fact-based exploration of extraordinary shark attacks throughout history. With over 200 pages of meticulously researched content—including more than 70 detailed case studies—John’s work avoids sensationalism while honoring the sheer power and enigma of these creatures.
John holds a certificate in professional writing and is currently completing a second certification in creative writing. His work reflects a balance of analytical precision and narrative craft, aiming to educate, unsettle, and inspire awe in equal measure.
